Nordic heroes.
Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Eivind Aadland, leads the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra through a rousing rendition of Sibelius' powerful tone poem, Finlandia.
Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Eivind Aadland, perform Finlandia, a piece which made Sibelius a hero in his native country. Commencing with a sinister-sounding brass statement, Finlandia soon assumes a more sympathetic bearing and builds to a rousing episode for full orchestra before a dignified, anthem-like tune emerges. Composed in 1899 – a time when Finland was under the yoke of Russia – Finlandia became the rallying cry for a people yearning to be free.
