Fairy Tales
Whimsical worlds.
Conducted by Richard Mills, featuring TSO Principal Double Bass Stuart Thomson.
Who says fairytales are only for children? When the clock strikes 6pm, we’ll drop you right in the middle of a fantasy.
Ravel’s whimsical Mother Goose Suite will have you dreaming of beasts and princesses no matter how old you are. Then we’ll shine a spotlight on the double bass in Fantastic Bestiary, a piece we commissioned especially for you. Richard Mills is an Australian composer, and his new music showcases the rich textures of this colossal string instrument. Hear it under the skillful bow of TSO Principal Double Bass Stuart Thomson, and the baton of the composer himself.
Wave goodbye with The Wasps. After its opening buzz, this Vaughan Williams work becomes a social satire based on an ancient Greek play. It’s bright and uplifting, and you’ll be smiling all the way home – or out to dinner, if you like.
